I was scrolling through many of the game's beauty mods and wondering what it takes to create such beautiful faces? The default Imperial is so ugly and fat that we're not going to start with the randomization feature. It seems like for every pretty face there is, there are 700 other ways to get it wrong. I'm sure it takes an artist and a keen eye to create a compelling character, even with the right mods.

But I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to create a pretty face. My first girl turned out pretty average on my first try at the game. I thought I had created the perfect face with the face builder features until I saw other examples.

Anyway, I'm looking for some tips to create some real beauties that I wouldn't mind staring at for 40+ hours straight in the tabs menu. I'm looking for tips on creating a cute character in general.

I have attached an example. I like her eyes and lips, how would you reproduce these results? What mod files would I need?

Start with new facial textures. In fact, you can create a beautiful face shape with Imperials - but no amount of settings can fix these lousy default textures. I believe the face texture in your photo is from the "Human Race deluxe edition", but I could be wrong as I don't use it.
If you need more than just a face, then you should also look into a new body mod.

I have the HG Eye Candy Body mod. It's working fine. I'm getting into the MOD now. There are many. Replaced NPCs with more attractive characters.

Still, I can't understand how the default textures give the characters a cottage cheese (aka lumpy) face. As if they were made to look so realistic as to be ugly.

Well, I have no idea what went through the developers' minds with that. But anyone will tell you that replacing textures for faces is absolutely a “must have”, and not just for a protagonist. It's not a pleasure to watch that freak show every time you talk to an NPC. There are many of these substitutes out there.
If you already use HG EC, try out facial textures that come in addition to this mod, along with body textures. I wouldn't call them wonderful, but they fit well. Other than that, all I can do as a personal recommendation is the Lattamer textures - though they do come with custom breed. Not a problem if you use a construction set.

I'm actually trying to discuss the methodology of creating a character.
Should I frame the face first by shaping the head and then work on the details?
What is everyone's experience with creating faces?

            Any pro tips?

I download custom races. Most of them (I.E Ren's Mystic Elf, Cute Elf, Lineage II Elves) have much, much prettier face textures. Also, I find custom races easier to work with, given that the predefined facegen character already has at least a semi-attractive face.

Since you already have HG's body, I won't bother suggesting any body replacements.

My advice would be to do a custom run and start playing around with Chargen. You will eventually find a face you like. Good luck.

If you don't mind, downloadFree demo version of Facegen Modeller. I've found it's easier to make a decent face than fiddling with the game's facegen sliders. Make your face, save it and usefg2oborfoconto transplant the face. Although the results are still not satisfactory, you can make a pretty face even for vanilla human/elf races.

                  Mystic Elf Mod.

I just wanted to be direct. The Mystic Elf mod worked best for me and I had the exact same problem as you. I wasn't satisfied with the original faces, especially the Breton ones. So fat and simple.

When I installed this mod, even randomization can make faces pretty. Just set the complexion to the highest and the age to the lowest and that's it!

(P.S. The character in the photo you just posted is awesome, I can understand why you want her to look like her!)

Well what you want to do is make the face frame before any toning.

                    Structure:
You want to keep your forehead wide and square, keep your eyebrows as close to your eyes as possible without making them unrealistic or awkward, your nose needs to be close to your mouth, which needs to be close to your chin.

                    Jaw/Cheeks:
She has a heart shaped face so don't be afraid to give her some width.
                    - Cheeks as high as you can
                    - Soften them to look like hers
-The posterior jaw should be wider
                    - Turn your face to the side
                    - Convex/concave The neckline should not be accentuated. It should look like a slope.
                    - Cheeks should be wider and not concave. Make them roll, without diving.

                    Eyes:
For her eyes you will probably need to get that mod for the shape but you can get close to vanilla if you DON'T MAKE THEM HUGE!
                    - Make the medium eyes first, choose a slider from the two at the bottom, slide one as far as it will go in either direction, then slide it back, do the same with the next one. You should see that you control the angle of the eye. Mainly use it to shape the eye into an almond shape, with the tips facing slightly upwards. It's ok if they look like alien eyes, use your aux. slider to take care of the size, not the size slider. That way it looks more natural.
                    - after defining your shape, you can make the eyes bigger or smaller. Hers aren't too big or small, just choose something that feels right for you, try to avoid making them too big. Big can be bright, but you just have to add flair.

                    Nariz: lateral e frontal
-She has small nostrils/lines so go ahead and make it a little smaller if you need to.
                    - One of the sliders near the bottom should say small->>larger, you want to slide it a little smaller than you'd like
                    - Find the pointy slider and slide it slightly upwards until it is correct.
                    - If you need to change the deep/shallow, deeper is almost always better.
                    - You want the eyebrow (it could be called something else, but you know what I mean) closer to the middle of the eye, the deep part where the nose begins. Smaller is better.

Lips: Front, just to make sure she has an overbite.
Hers will be very difficult to make with vanilla as they appear to be custom racing
                    - Move your lips as close to your chin as possible to make your bottom lip thicker than your top.
                    - You want small, pucker-free lips. Work the sliders by moving the non-gauze side all the way to the non-gauze side. Move the little one all the way to the small side. If either of them has moved, keep putting them back in until they both do. Eventually they will.
                    - Toggle the sliders to get the desired correct shape after that.

Chin: Turn your face to the side.
                    -She has a high chin
                    -this only protrudes a little.
                    -The portrude is soft.
                    - If you get a pointy chin but overall shape, don't worry! Leave it as it is when it is the correct length and overhang. Go down to the jaw to correct any sharp angles.

rinse and repeat. Anything messed up, go back and fix it. It will be better if you do it all at once and then get back to work.

Okay, and I've tried all of these myself now to see how close I can get: you definitely need the eyes and mouth mods. The textures are too different to even come close to that, but everything else I have here should give you a pretty character similar to her vanilla facial build :3 and if you have her mods just apply them with her.

Don't criticize me, I personally don't like Mystic Elves anymore.Creating Beautiful Female Characters - Discussing Oblivion (68)

That's because my love is in Lineage II Dark Elves.

Anyway, pretty faces can be obtained more easily in the pattern of custom races. They will far outperform stock races and if you don't mess with them too much you won't have to worry about making them look ugly. >.>

You can rummage through save games, but I think a lot of them look weird.

If you find some Japanese mod sites they tend to have awesome faces in their savegames! I knew an amazing one, but it's out of order. T_T

Find a custom racing mod that you really love. Edit the default faces a bit. In custom runs, redefining the face immediately can help because it lessens these unattractive features.

Some things I personally think we should avoid doing with your characters that might make them unattractive:

                      - Large, excessively pursed lips (look a lot like a doll's)
                      - Huge eyes (very unnatural and anime-like)
                      - Too wide chin (a female character can end up looking too masculine, which is also weird if the chin is too narrow)
                      - Sunken cheeks (messing around with the cheek settings too much can make your character look unhealthy)
                      - Excessively rounded faces (simply make the character look too fat compared to his body)
                      - Too much eye makeup (too much mess with the eye tone sliders seems to mess up the rest of the face tones and makes the character look scary!)
                      - ghostly white skin (light skin is beautiful, but when your character is glowing in the sunlight, other than eye damage, it's just weird... the shade lightens the skin too much, keep the light/dark slider at half and adjust the proportion of blue and gold tones in the skin instead)

Those are some specialties for me. These days I like my fair-skinned characters to be fair with healthy golden undertones to their skin and my Dark Elves to be more blue in appearance than green, and I don't actually add much eyeliner or eyeshadow to them, and it seems to help!

Hope these tips can help you.
